Hospitality debt collection in the UAE

Corporate accounts, OTA and travel-trade balances, event and banqueting debt, and long-stay balances. Hospitality receivables are unusual in that the service is consumed before the credit decision is ever really made.

What we recover

  • Corporate accounts — companies with direct-billing arrangements for accommodation and meetings.
  • Travel trade and OTA balances — agencies and platforms that collected from the guest and never remitted.
  • Events, conferences and banqueting — the largest individual claims in the sector, and the ones most often disputed after the fact.
  • Long-stay and serviced apartment balances.
  • Supplier disputes where the hotel is the creditor on a contra arrangement.
  • Individual guest balances — handled as consumer accounts.

Why event debt is different

An event is delivered in a single day, at high cost, often on a signed function sheet and a deposit that covers a fraction of the total. Once it is over, the client's incentive to settle drops sharply — and the disputes that surface afterwards tend to be about attendance numbers, consumption, extras and service quality rather than about whether the event happened.

What decides these claims is the contemporaneous record: the signed banqueting event order, the final guarantee numbers, the signed consumption checks, and whether any complaint was raised on the day or only when the invoice arrived.

The pattern to watch for

A complaint about service quality that appears for the first time in response to a payment demand is, in our experience, almost always a negotiating position rather than a grievance. If it had been a real problem, someone would have said so while the event was running. Pointing that out plainly, with the signed checks attached, resolves a good share of these.

Travel trade and OTA balances

These are ordinary B2B debt with one complication: the intermediary has usually already collected from the guest, so what you are recovering is money they hold rather than money they must find. That is a materially stronger position, and it is worth saying so in the demand.

Where the intermediary is outside the UAE, recovery becomes a cross-border matter — see cross-border recovery.

What to send

  • The corporate rate agreement, contract or credit application.
  • For events: the signed banqueting event order, final guarantee, and signed consumption checks.
  • Registration cards, folios and the statement of account.
  • The correspondence trail, particularly anything acknowledging the balance.
  • Any cheque given and returned. See cheque recovery.

Reputation

Hospitality creditors are more exposed than most to how collection is conducted, because the debtor is frequently a corporate client they would still like to keep. All contact is professional and documented, and where a relationship is worth preserving, say so when you place the claim and the approach is adjusted accordingly.

Hospitality FAQs

Common questions

The client is disputing the event bill months later. Where do we stand?

Usually well, if you hold the signed event order and consumption checks and no complaint was raised on the day. Late-appearing quality complaints in response to a demand are typically negotiating positions.

An OTA collected from guests and has not remitted. Is that recoverable?

It is one of the stronger claim types, because the intermediary holds money rather than needing to find it. Where they sit outside the UAE it becomes a cross-border matter.

We want to keep the corporate client. Can you still pursue the balance?

Yes. Tell us at the assessment and the tone and stated next step are adjusted. A demand can be firm without being terminal.

A guest left without settling their folio.

That is a consumer account. Recoverability depends on the registration details held and whether the individual is still in the country. See consumer collection.
