Debt collection in Abu Dhabi

Recovery of unpaid invoices, contract balances and commercial debt from debtors in Abu Dhabi — onshore, in the free zones, and in ADGM. No win, no fee, and an honest view on the odds before you commit to anything.

What debt looks like in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi's creditor problems have a different shape from Dubai's. The economy is weighted toward energy, infrastructure, government-linked contracting and large institutional buyers, and that changes what an unpaid invoice usually means.

  • Long payment chains on major projects. Infrastructure and energy work passes through several tiers of contractor. A tier-three supplier chasing payment is frequently downstream of a certification dispute they have no visibility of.
  • Government and semi-government counterparties. These have their own procurement and payment procedures, and the realistic options against them are narrower than against a private debtor. We will tell you plainly if we think there is no route.
  • Larger claim values, slower cycles. Abu Dhabi claims that reach us tend to be bigger and older than Dubai ones, which raises the value of establishing solvency and asset position before spending anything on escalation.

ADGM is a separate jurisdiction

If your debtor is registered in the Abu Dhabi Global Market, they sit in an independent common-law jurisdiction with its own courts and its own procedure — not the onshore Abu Dhabi courts. It is the ADGM equivalent of the DIFC position in Dubai.

Amicable recovery is unaffected: a demand and a negotiated settlement work the same way. What changes is where a claim would go if it escalated, and that should be established at the assessment stage rather than discovered later. It is one of the reasons we ask for the debtor's registration details rather than just their trading name.

Verify the entity before anything else

Abu Dhabi groups commonly operate through several registered entities across onshore, free-zone and ADGM registrations. The name on your invoice and the entity that legally owes the money are frequently not the same. Getting this wrong costs months.

How we work an Abu Dhabi claim

The same five stages as anywhere else: free assessment, verification and debtor profiling, formal demand, negotiation, and escalation only if the debtor will not engage. Contact is made in Arabic or English as the file requires.

The verification stage carries more weight here than in most emirates, because of the entity-structure point above and because escalation against a large institutional debtor is a materially more expensive decision than against a small trading company.

Abu Dhabi FAQs

Common questions

Can you recover from an ADGM-registered company?

Yes. Amicable recovery is the same process. If the matter escalated it would go to the ADGM Courts, an independent common-law jurisdiction separate from the onshore Abu Dhabi courts — which is established at the assessment stage.

Our debtor is a government-linked entity. Is it worth pursuing?

Sometimes, and the honest answer depends on the entity and the nature of the debt. These counterparties have their own procurement and payment procedures and the realistic options are narrower. We will give you a straight view at the assessment rather than take the file and let it sit.

The main contractor says they have not been certified yet. Is that a real reason?

Frequently it is genuine, particularly on large infrastructure work. It does not mean you stop pursuing — it means a structured settlement tied to the certification is often more recoverable than a demand for immediate payment in full.
